What is MediSave

Your personal healthcare savings account

When you’re working, you save between 8% and 10.5% of your monthly salary in your MediSave.

This helps you pay for your healthcare expenses over your lifetime, especially when you retire and no longer have a regular income.

Basic Healthcare Sum (BHS)

Your BHS is the estimated amount of savings you need for basic subsidised healthcare expenses in old age. It is the maximum amount you can have in your MediSave.

Your BHS is adjusted yearly until you reach the age of 65 and will remain fixed for the rest of your life.

Caring for yourself and your loved ones

MediSave can be used for your medical expenses and those of your loved ones.

Who can benefit from your MediSave

You can use your MediSave for yourself or your family members. This includes your spouse, children, parents, grandparents, or siblings.

They can be of any nationality, except for grandparents and siblings, who must be Singapore Citizens or Permanent Residents.

Outpatient treatments

Outpatient care

MediSave can help you pay for selected outpatient treatments, such as:

Management of chronic diseases
Vaccinations
Health screenings
CT/MRI scans

Hospitalisation

Inpatient care

MediSave can help you cover the costs of your hospitalisation and day surgery expenses.

Long-term care

Rehabilitation

MediSave can be used to cover the costs of rehabilitative care, if you’re:

An inpatient at an approved community hospital (for $250 per day, up to $5,000 per annum)
An inpatient at an approved convalescent hospital (for $50 per day, up to $3,000 per annum)
An outpatient at a day rehabilitation centre (for $25 per day per rehabilitation service, up to $1,500 per annum)
An outpatient at an approved day hospital (for $150 per day, up to $3,000 per annum)

Palliative care

MediSave can be used to pay for palliative care at:

Inpatient palliative care in approved inpatient hospice palliative care services (IHPCS) (up to $250 per day for general palliative care and up to $350 per day for specialised palliative care)
Home palliative and day hospice care. If you are terminally ill, there is no withdrawal limit if you are using your own MediSave to pay the bill. You may also tap on your family member’s MediSave for payment, up to a withdrawal limit of $2,500 per patient per lifetime.

Disability care

Under MediSave Care, you can withdraw up to $200 per month from your and/or your spouse’s MediSave, if you’re aged 30 and above with severe disability.

A minimum of $5,000 will need to be set aside in MediSave.

Insurance premiums

MediShield Life

MediSave can be used to pay for MediShield Life insurance premiums, which will help to cover large hospital bills and selected costly outpatient treatments.

You can use MediSave to pay the insurance premiums of your Integrated Shield Plans, which supplement your plan coverage.

If you’re covered under ElderShield, you can use your MediSave to pay your premiums. ElderShield provides payouts for your long-term care needs in the event of severe disability.

Use your MediSave to pay for your CareShield Life premiums. The scheme offers payouts for your long-term care needs in the event of severe disability.
