Overview
Your options for financing education

If you need funds to finance your own or your children's education, there are several options.

Apply for MOE Higher Education Student Loan
  • Interest-free during course of study
  • Covers up to 90% of university and polytechnic fees

Use the Post-Secondary Education Account Fund
  • For parents to save for their children's post-secondary education
  • Administered by MOE and open for eligible Singapore Citizens

Apply for CPF education loan
  • Interest repayable accrues at 2.5% per year from the first deduction for tuition fee payment
  • Covers full-time subsidised diploma or degree courses at approved educational institutions in Singapore.

Repayment timeline

You must make repayments in cash to your lender's CPF Ordinary Account starting one year after you graduate or leave the course. It's recommended to make repayments as early as possible to save on interest repayable.

 

You cannot use your CPF savings to make repayments.

You can log in and go to the Education dashboard to view loan information such as:

  • Outstanding loan amount
  • Accrued interest repayable
  • Monthly instalment amount
  • Total arrears

Repayment methods

You can do the following on the CPF website:

  • Change your monthly instalment amount
  • Make one-off cash repayments
  • Defer repayments if you're a full-time student, full-time National Serviceman, or currently unemployed

Waiver information

If you're aged 55 and above when the student graduates or terminates their studies and have set aside your Full Retirement Sum, you may apply for a waiver of repayment.

 

Your waiver application will be assessed based on qualifying conditions.

You should only apply to waive the repayment if you have no intention of continuing the use of your CPF savings for the student's current course of study. If the student is still enrolled, you must first revoke the use of CPF savings for future payments for the student's current course before applying to waive the repayment.

When to apply

Application periods are different for each educational institution. Check the application schedule to see when you can apply.

Who can apply

To be eligible for the CPF Education Loan Scheme, you must be a Singapore Citizen or Permanent Resident and enrolled in a full-time subsidised diploma or degree course at an approved educational institution in Singapore.

Your CPF lender must also be a Singapore Citizen or Permanent Resident and have enough available for education loans in their Ordinary Account. The exact amount available for education can be checked by your lender if they log in and view their Education dashboard.

The amount available for education will change if there is a new withdrawal, repayment or refund in the lender's Ordinary Account. Before submitting an application online, check that your lender has enough CPF savings available.
