Key 2021 CPF statistics
The CPF system continued to serve members well in 2021 by helping them meet their retirement, housing and healthcare needs.
As of 2021, there were 4.1 million members in total and 2.1 million active members.
Total CPF members' balances grew by 9.4% to $505.7 billion. CPF contributions collected and credited in 2021 was $44.7 billion.
$18.3 billion in interest was credited in total to CPF members' accounts, including $1.8 billion in extra interest.
416,000 members received monthly retirement payouts in 2021. More than 85,000 CPF LIFE members will receive payouts for as long as they live. $2.2 billion in monthly payouts were disbursed in 2021.
294,000 members made 668,000 top-ups amounting to $4.8 billion. The number of top-ups increased by 102%, from 331,000 top-ups to 668,000 top-ups. The total top-up amount also increased by 60%, from $3 billion to $4.8 billion. More than half of members who topped up were topping up for the first time.
$68 million in Matched Retirement Savings Scheme grants was credited to 117,000 members' Retirement Account for cash top-ups received in 2021.
$7.4 billion was disbursed to CPF members in 2021 - $5.3 billion was to members who reached the age of 55 and have set aside their Cohort Full Retirement Sum in their Retirement Account, $1.5 billion was disbursed due to death and reduced life expectancy, and $0.6 billion was disbursed to members who left Singapore and West Malaysia permanently, and Malaysians who left Singapore to reside in West Malaysia.
MediSave withdrawals for direct medical expenses amounted to $1.12 billion, while claims from MediShield Life coverage amounted to $1.2 billion for 775,000 claims.
996,000 members used CPF savings for housing needs amounting to $21.9 billion.
