Supporting caregivers while safeguarding vulnerable members’ interests in the management of their CPF

Lianhe Zaobao, 12 August 2025
General, p17

We thank Mr See for his feedback on his experience at the CPF Service Centre when handling his mother’s CPF matters (“Can some dementia patients recover?”, 4 August 2025).

A deputy is an individual appointed by the court to make decisions on behalf of a person who lacks mental capacity. When a deputy approaches the CPF Board to transact on the member’s behalf, we require original documents, such as a medical report from an accredited doctor stating that the member lacks mental capacity permanently. Such safeguards are in place to protect our members’ interests.

If any of the necessary original documents were submitted to the Court as part of the deputy applications, CPF Board has established an arrangement with the Family Justice Courts to obtain copies of these documents.

We have since contacted Mr See to assist him.

We are constantly reviewing our processes to better support deputies and caregivers, while safeguarding our members’ CPF savings. Members or caregivers who face difficulties in obtaining the required documents can approach the CPF Board for assistance.
