I was admitted to a Class A/B1 ward. Why are the pro-ration factors lowered from 1 April 2025 and how will this affect my MediShield Life claim?
As private hospital bills and Class A/B1 bills in public hospitals are generally higher than the Class B2/C bills that MediShield Life is designed for, they are pro-rated or normalised to the equivalent level of a Class B2/C bill before MediShield Life payouts are computed to ensure payouts are comparable.

With private and unsubsidised bills growing faster than subsidised bills, the pro-ration factors have been reduced to ensure MediShield Life payouts are comparable across different settings and to reduce cross-subsidisation .

Patients who seek private or unsubsidised care should now see comparable payouts to subsidised patients.
