How do I determine which Self-Help Group (SHG) my employee should contribute to?
To determine the correct Self-Help Group (SHG) for your employee, you will need your employee's race and religion details. The source for this information is your employee's NRIC. Where the NRIC is unavailable or does not reflect the required information, you may obtain it through a declaration by the employee. Employees are responsible for informing employers of any changes to their race and/or religion.

SHG contributions are determined as follows:
  • Contributions to the Mosque Building and Mendaki Fund (MBMF) are based on the employee's religion (i.e., applicable to Muslim employees only).
  • Contributions to all other SHGs are based on the employee's race as indicated on the NRIC.
  • For employees with two races listed on their NRIC (e.g., Indian-Chinese), the first race listed determines the applicable SHG.
If an employee wishes to contribute to only one SHG instead of multiple, or to contribute a different amount, they may contact the respective SHGs directly for assistance.

Please refer to the following examples on determining the correct SHG for your employees.

(a) Employee's race on NRIC is "Indian-Chinese"

As the first part of the race is Indian, the employee is required to contribute to the Singapore Indian Development Association (SINDA). The employee may also choose to contribute both to SINDA and the Chinese Development Assistance Council (CDAC).

(b) Employee is Muslim; race on NRIC is "Indian"

The employee is required to contribute to both MBMF and SINDA.

(c) Employee is Muslim; race on NRIC is "Indian-Chinese"

The employee is required to contribute to both MBMF and SINDA.
