Why is the minimum lease period set at 20 years? Why am I not allowed to use my CPF savings to buy a property with a lease of less than 20 years when it can last me till 95?

We recognise that the previous minimum lease period (MLP) of 30 years for CPF usage contributed to anxieties on the saleability of older properties and have lowered this to 20 years. This is the same as the MLP for obtaining a HDB loan. There will still be a MLP of 20 years to ensure prudent use of CPF savings. Nevertheless, most properties today are still young and far away from this MLP of 20 years.
