Why is there a change in MediSave500 withdrawal limits from the per-account basis to a per-patient basis from 1 January 2021?
The cost of treatment and amount of MediSave needed is linked closely to the complexity of a patient’s chronic medical conditions.
Along with the introduction of a higher withdrawal limit for patients with complex chronic conditions, this change to a per-patient basis allows for more targeted support based on an individual’s condition. This is similar to how the rest of the MediSave limits are structured.
Should the patient have insufficient balance in his MediSave, family members can still continue to use their MediSave to pay for the patient’s treatment, up to the annual limit of the patient.
