Understand What is ElderShield?<p>ElderShield was first launched by the Ministry of Health in September 2002 as a severe disability insurance scheme which provides basic financial protection to those who need long-term care, especially in their old age. It provides a monthly cash payout for up to 72 months to help pay out-of-pocket expenses for the care of severely disabled persons.</p><p>ElderShield was offered to eligible Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents (PRs) who had a MediSave Account when they turned 40 years old in 2019 or earlier. Those turning 40 in 2020 will join the new CareShield Life scheme from end-2020.</p><p>ElderShield is currently administered by three private insurers appointed by the Ministry of Health. They are: Aviva Ltd, Great Eastern Life Assurance Co Ltd and NTUC Income Insurance Cooperative Ltd. The insurers are also allowed to provide ElderShield Supplements.</p><p>For more information on ElderShield, please refer to the <a href="" target="_blank">Ministry of Health's website</a> or contact the ElderShield insurers.</p><table width="100%"><tbody><tr><td width="80%" colspan="3">Aviva</td></tr><tr><td width="5%" valign="top">Address<br></td><td width="5%" valign="top">:<br></td><td width="70%">Aviva Ltd<br>4 Shenton Way, #01-01, SGX Centre 2 Singapore 068807<br></td></tr><tr><td>Website</td><td>:</td><td> <a href="" target="_blank"></a></td></tr><tr><td>Email</td><td>:</td><td></td></tr><tr><td>Hotline</td><td>:</td><td>6827 7788</td></tr></tbody></table><p> </p><table width="100%"><tbody><tr><td width="80%" colspan="3">Great Eastern</td></tr><tr><td width="5%" valign="top">Address</td><td width="5%" valign="top">:</td><td width="70%">The Great Eastern Life Assurance Company Limited <br>1 Pickering Street, #13-01, Great Eastern Centre, Singapore 048659</td></tr><tr><td>Website</td><td>:</td><td> <a href="" target="_blank"></a></td></tr><tr><td>Email</td><td>:</td><td></td></tr><tr><td>Hotline</td><td>:</td><td>1800-248-2888</td></tr></tbody></table><p> </p><table width="100%"><tbody><tr><td width="80%" colspan="3">NTUC Income</td></tr><tr><td width="5%" valign="top">Address<br></td><td width="5%" valign="top">:</td><td width="70%">NTUC Income Insurance Co-operative Ltd <br>75 Bras Basah Road, NTUC Income Centre, Singapore 189557</td></tr><tr><td>Website</td><td>:</td><td> <a href="" target="_blank"></a></td></tr><tr><td>Hotline</td><td>:</td><td>6332 1133</td></tr></tbody></table><p> </p><table width="100%"><tbody><tr><td width="80%" colspan="3">Ministry Of Health (MOH)</td></tr><tr><td>Hotline</td><td>:</td><td>1800-225-4122</td></tr><tr><td>Website</td><td>:</td><td> <a href="" target="_blank"></a></td></tr><tr><td>Email</td><td>:</td><td></td></tr></tbody></table> ElderShield15641564

Your plan’s benefits depend on when you joined ElderShield.</p><p align="center"> <strong>Table 1: Payouts for ElderShield</strong></p><table width="100%" class="ms-rteTable-default" cellspacing="0" style="text-align:center;"><tbody><tr class="ms-rteTableEvenRow-default"><td class="ms-rteTableEvenCol-default" style="width:25%;"></td><td class="ms-rteTableEvenCol-default" style="width:35%;"><strong>If you joined ElderShield <br>from September 2007 (inclusive)</strong></td><td class="ms-rteTableOddCol-default" style="width:35%;"> <strong>If you joined ElderShield between September 2002 and August 2007</strong></td></tr><tr class="ms-rteTableFooterRow-default"><td class="ms-rteTableFooterEvenCol-default" style="width:25%;"></td><td class="ms-rteTableFooterEvenCol-default" style="width:35%;text-align:center;">ElderShield400</td><td class="ms-rteTableFooterOddCol-default" style="width:35%;text-align:center;">ElderShield300</td></tr><tr class="ms-rteTableFooterRow-default"><td class="ms-rteTableFooterEvenCol-default" style="width:25%;">Payout Amount</td><td class="ms-rteTableFooterEvenCol-default" style="width:35%;text-align:center;">$400 / month</td><td class="ms-rteTableFooterOddCol-default" style="width:35%;text-align:center;">$300 / month</td></tr><tr class="ms-rteTableFooterRow-default"><td class="ms-rteTableFooterEvenCol-default" style="width:25%;">Payout Duration</td><td class="ms-rteTableFooterEvenCol-default" style="width:35%;text-align:center;">Up to 72 months (6 years)</td><td class="ms-rteTableFooterOddCol-default" style="width:35%;text-align:center;">Up to 60 months (5 years)</td></tr></tbody></table> <p> </p><p>If you are also covered under ElderShield Supplements, you will receive additional benefits.</p><p>You can read more about the two ElderShield schemes on the <a href="" target="_blank">MOH website</a>.</p>ElderShield15781578
Understand How much is my ElderShield premium?<p>Your ElderShield premium is set based on your age when you join the scheme and is payable until age 65. The premium amount does not increase with age. Follow these links for premiums for <a href="" target="_blank">ElderShield 400</a> and <a href="" target="_blank">ElderShield 300</a>.</p>ElderShield15651565
Understand How can I pay for the ElderShield premiums?<p>The premiums can be paid using your MediSave savings. If you do not have enough MediSave savings, you can use the MediSave savings of your spouse, parents, children, grandchildren and siblings. You can also pay using cash, cheque or arrange for a GIRO payment to your insurer.</p>ElderShield15801580
Understand What are ElderShield Supplements?<p>If you wish to have higher severe disability insurance coverage (e.g. higher payouts and/or longer payout period), you can consider buying ElderShield Supplements offered by the three appointed private insurers. You will need to have a basic ElderShield cover before you can buy ElderShield Supplements. The premiums of ElderShield Supplements can also be paid using your MediSave savings, up to a limit of $600 per year per insured person.</p><p>Premiums for Supplements range widely and commensurate with the type of benefits they offer. You may refer to <a href="" target="_blank">individual Supplement plans here for more information</a>.</p><p>You can check for your Supplement coverage through the CPF Board’s website. The steps are as follows:</p><ol type="a"><li>Go to <a href=""></a>.</li><li>Login to “<em>my CPF</em> Online Services” using your NRIC and SingPass.</li><li>Select “My Messages”, and check under “Healthcare” section.</li></ol><p>If you are covered under ElderShield or Supplements, this section will let you know the insurer your Supplement is under (i.e. Aviva, Great Eastern, or Income).*</p><p> <span style="font-size:0.9em;">* If you are not covered under ElderShield, the CPF website will not reflect any information on ElderShield. Please note that your Supplement insurer may not be the same as your ElderShield insurer.</span></p>ElderShield15671567
EvaluateWhy should I stay on ElderShield and not opt out?<p>By joining the scheme under auto-coverage, you do not need to go for any medical assessment. If you opt out now and want to join later, your application will be subject to the insurer’s underwriting and approval. </p><p>In addition, as the ElderShield premiums depend on the age of entry and do not increase with age, annual premiums are more affordable if you join the scheme earlier.</p>ElderShield15691569
EvaluateCan I change my ElderShield insurer?<p>You can change your ElderShield insurer before your cover commences by completing the form in your welcome package. Mail the completed form back to your assigned insurer and you should receive your policy documents from your chosen insurer about one to two weeks later. </p><p>If you wish to change insurer after the commencement of your plan, you will need to terminate your plan with your existing insurer and apply for a new cover with your chosen insurer. You may be subject to underwriting or medical assessment by the new insurer. Premiums can only be refunded if the cover is terminated in the first 60 days of the first policy year. </p>ElderShield15721572
ApplyHow do I join ElderShield?<p>If you are born in 1980 or after, you will be covered automatically under CareShield Life from end-2020 onwards. There is no need for you to join ElderShield. </p><p>If you are born in 1979 or earlier and previously opted out of ElderShield, you may approach any of the ElderShield insurer (i.e. Aviva, Great Eastern or NTUC Income) to re-join ElderShield again. All three insurers offer the same premiums and payouts under ElderShield. </p><p>You will be required to go through a medical assessment. Your application may be rejected by the insurer if you have a pre-existing medical condition.</p><p>Once CareShield Life is made available for Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents born in 1979 or earlier from end-2021 onwards, you may choose to join CareShield Life if you are not severely disabled. The ElderShield scheme will then be closed to new applications. </p>ElderShield15791579
ApplyCan I terminate my ElderShield cover?<p>You can terminate your ElderShield cover if you do not wish to continue to be covered under the scheme. However, you will lose all existing benefits, and you may have to go for a medical assessment if you wish to re-join ElderShield (or CareShield Life, from end-2021 onwards). We therefore encourage you to consider keeping your ElderShield policy to ensure you continue to have basic protection for long-term care. </p><p>If you have decided not to be covered under the Scheme, you may write in to your insurer indicating your wish to terminate your ElderShield cover. Your name and NRIC number should be indicated clearly, and you should personally sign the letters instructing the insurer to terminate your ElderShield cover.</p><p>Please note that no premium will be refunded if you terminate your ElderShield cover, after the first 60 days of the first policy year.</p> ElderShield15731573
