SUBSCRIBERS to the Government's Myecitizen online service will no longer receive SMS alerts when their Central Provident Fund contributions are paid.

Instead, they will be sent a text message only if employers default on their payments.

Myecitizen, launched in 2002, is a free service that sends SMS or e-mail reminders for tasks such as renewing tax or passports.

The change took place on Wednesday after subscribers said that the monthly alerts were not necessary.

"We agree with this feedback, as the vast majority of employers pay the CPF contributions promptly," said a CPF Board spokesman.

In the past, letters were posted to subscribers whose bosses did not pay up. This meant it took longer for them to be notified.

Under the CPF Act, it is an offence for employers to default on payments. Those who do so can be fined $2,500, or $10,000 for repeat offences.

Staff and members of the public can report non-payment at employer@cpf.gov.sg or call the CPF Board's hotline on 1800-221-9922. All information will be kept strictly confidential.

Workers can check they have received the correct payments by looking at their accounts on the CPF website.
