According to the Department of Statistics in 2011, the average male Singaporean would live till 79 and for the ladies till 84 years old. With advances in medical science, our life expectancies are only going to increase over the years. As Singaporeans live longer, we are all expected to have more years in retirement. While that means we would have more time for our retirement, it also means that we would have to build a larger retirement nest egg to support that. With 20% of our population aged 65 years and above by 2030, our national resources could be increasingly stretched in the years to come. Throw in the rising cost of living, we can clearly see why we need to plan for sufficient financial resources in retirement. However, with the happiness index being a current topic much talked about, we all know that it is more than just having money in our retirement. What then constitutes a retirement that truly can be called our golden years? How do we plan holistically for our retirement? This workshop serves to set the foundation by answering some of these key questions.
