The good thing abt unit trusts is RSP, if not ETF and direct investments are better.
The thing is direct investment requires more experties and also a much larger capital.
I say the best is use UT for RSP, then switch to ETFs when the pool grew big enough.
And finally, go to direct shares and real estate.
I know what you mean and I will try to do it myself. I am curious to see the final results.
