To qualify, these children have to be receiving childcare, kindergarten and student care subsidies under Comcare.

Called the Income Family Micro-Insurance (IFMIS) Scheme, it provides insurance coverage for the main income earner. A payout of $5,000 will be made to the family if their main income earner dies or becomes totally and permanently disabled.

About 13,000 families stand to benefit from the free insurance scheme, which is expected to cost the insurer up to $500,000 in the next three years.

Motor Insurance and Home Insurance Cover

Hi,

Can anyone advise or share what one usually take note of when renewing motor insurance and home insurance cover on household contents, renovations and 3P liabilities?

For motor insurance renewals,
1) what values should be considered for "Own damage" and "windscreen" excess? How does
one decide on values and what is the norm? Does the age of the car affect these
decisions?
2) are 3P liabilities standard for all motor insurance policies?
3) which insurance companies are most recommended re reasonable premiums and ease
and speed in event of claims?
4) Besides AIG, which other insurance companies do not participate in the IDAC scheme?

For home insurance cover on contents, renovations and 3P liabilities,
5) would premiums differ depending on the type of housing covered? Why? I noticed that the
loyalty home cover from AIG do not show any differentiation.
6) In the event of claims on household renovations and contents, what would be needed by
the insurance companies before they pay?
7) Any insurance companies recommended ?

8) Is it necessary to really compare amongst various insurance companies for the above two
classes of insurance cover? Does the premiums really differ greatly for the same cover?
If yes, how different?

Would appreciate any views and advice

Thank you!

Home Protection Scheme Exemption

I'm planning to take a bank loan for my HDB flat purchase.
The bank told me that I have to either get CPF Board's Home Protection Scheme or other insurance policies to ensure the amount is covered.
They told me that they will accept policies insured by their partner (a specifc insurer).

When I read CPF website, I understand that CPF Board allows home buyers to be exempted from HPS, if the buyers have insurance policies sufficient to cover the loan amount.
However, CPF Board did not mention any specific requirement on the insurer.

My understanding of the whole situation is that, as long as CPF Board has exempted me from HPS, CPF Board is actually satisfied with the fact that I have enough sufficent insurance cover to pay off my outstanding loan. If this is the case, then why is it that the lending bank has to specify which insurer I can only use for apply the HPS exemption?

Saw this question posted in IMsavvy: I'm turning 25 soon. How to choose a good insurance plan?

Makes me wonder... I'm sure quite a no. of you here are over this age already, what did you have at that age? Personally, I do have life, health, critical illness plans in place then but that's with the help of a financial planner. I've many other friends who may have insurance but it is common if one can't name the type and coverage they have. Quite a sad fact actually.
